The Spartanburg Community College Foundation Board of Directors regretfully announces its decision on October 12, 2009 to discontinue its annual Fourth of July celebration and fundraiser, Red, White & Boom.
For the past 14 years, Red, White & Boom has been Spartanburg's premiere Fourth of July celebration featuring major entertainers and spectacular fireworks. The event grew from humble beginnings as a small campus gathering in 1996 to a regional celebration attracting thousands of guest in 2009. What began as a modest fundraiser for the Spartanburg Technical College Foundation has, over the years, become a primary source of revenue for the SCC Foundation and Spartanburg Community College.
However, as Red, White & Boom has grown, so too have the costs associated with presenting an event of this magnitude. Regretfully, it was determined the cost to continue this event now exceeds the revenues generated. Rather than offer a lesser quality production, the difficult decision was made by the Board to focus the SCC Foundation's efforts on other fundraising opportunities.
Sincere thanks are extended to the many dedicated sponsors, volunteers and attendees of Red, White & Boom over the years. The SCC Foundation now moves forward with a solid foundation of support to the students, faculty, staff and community served by Spartanburg Community College.
The City of Spartanburg will host Red, White and Boom 2010
DATE OF EVENT: July 3, 2010
